Stephan Georgiev has over 25 years of experience in the field of intellectual property. His practice involves most aspects of patent-related work with an emphasis on prosecution, client counselling, and patent portfolio growth and utilization. He advises clients ranging from start-ups to large multinational corporations.

Mr. Georgiev has prepared and prosecuted to issuance several hundred foreign and domestic patent applications, and he has significant experience in complex Patent Office proceedings such as patent appeals and re-examinations. His expertise in the prosecution of business method patents and consumer products is well-established. 

Mr. Georgiev counsels clients on patent matters that may arise under many different business scenarios and does so during all phases of product development to identify opportunities for patent protection likely to provide significant commercial advantages. He analyses competitor patent portfolios to identify potential infringement risks and advises clients during the product design process on design-around options, and he also studies competitor products and provides advice from the perspective of patent portfolio enforcement. He regularly coordinates the preparation of market clearance, validity and patentability opinions.

Mr. Georgiev also represents clients in due-diligence investigations and conducts analyses to assess the strength of a patent portfolio and potential patent infringement risks during investment, technology acquisition or business sale transactions.  

Mr. Georgiev's technical expertise extends to diverse technologies in the electronics and mechanical fields with a focus on business methods, and consumer products and software such as personal care products, software user interfaces, electronics (x-ray image analysis, speech recognition, data transmission and routing, wireless technologies, speech and video coding, and echo cancellation) and mechanical devices, including railway technologies.
